Making the Careers site 95% PwD friendly
Navigating the internet can sometimes be challenging, even for us. But when you have a disability this becomes a mammoth task. Although differently abled people often face issues while browsing, these hardships can be avoided by making websites PwD friendly. This is exactly what we have done with the Wipro Careers website.
Wipro’s culture thrives on diversity and inclusivity thus, they encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply for jobs. However, this was a challenge considering the website was not easy to navigate. Thus, we set out to make the Wipro Careers website user friendly for People with Disabilities.
This was done by implementing screen reader and keyboard accessibility on our site. But what does this mean actually? Screen readers are used by people who are visually impaired, they could have complete or partial loss of vision. Through this technology, text on the screen is read out to the user, making it easy to navigate. In addition to this, alt-tags were applied to the images on the site. Through these descriptions, screen readers are able to function better and describe the contents of the image.
People with disabilities often find it difficult to use a mouse, this is when keyboard accessibility comes into focus. Through this, we have ensured that most of the links are accessible by the tab key.
Through these upgrades we have ensured that differently-abled people can navigate the Wipro Careers site with ease. Thus, getting them one step closer to their dream job.
